LASIK – Information and instructions
What is LASIK?
LASIK means
the correction of the corneal shape using the laser without the need for surgical stitches
Is LASIK painful?
Most patients do not feel pain during the operation due to the use of a topical (surface) anesthetic, a drop placed in the eye to numb the surface of the cornea.
When can I see clearly after the operation?
Most patients can watch TV after 4 hours of operation, but the full visual improvement of the eyes occurs within a week to 3 weeks and varies from patient to patient.
What is the right age for LASIK?
the right age for LASIK
After the age of maturity around 18 years, for the stability of refractive error.
Is it possible to improve vision acuity to 6/6 or 20/20?
Yes,
most patients feel better vision so they can pass the
visual acuity test without wearing glasses or contact lenses.
The improvement is to the degree that visual acuity returns normally.
What are the advantages of LASIK on the previous laser process?
The older laser refractive surgery techniques treat the surface of the cornea directly after the removal of the surface cell layer while the current LASIK surgery treats the inner corneal tissues. This is why LASIK is characterized by rapid vision improvement after only 4 hours of operation, with no corneal surface haze or opacities, and can be done for large refractive errors.
What are the risks of LASIK?
The LASIK process,
like any other surgery, has some risks, which require extensive surgical experience with the treating physician.
Has anyone ever been blinded after LASIK?
This belief is untrue and these rumors have no scientific basis, there is no proof that there is one case that suffered such damage in the world.
Is LASIK possible for both eyes at the same time?
In most patients (98%) we perform LASIK with both eyes at the same time and in the remaining cases (2%) each eye is done separately as the patient wish.
What are the results of LASIK?
In cases of simple myopia, the success rate reaches (98%) and in moderate to high myopia cases which are more than minus 6 degrees, the success rate reaches 95%
How long will the impact of the operation remain and will it be needed to be done again in the future?
From the close follow-up of patients who have performed the procedure for more than 15 years, we have been assured of the stability of the outcome of the surgery, which confirms its success over the years.
If the procedure does not lead to a complete correction of the eye, can it be replicated to correct the rest of myopia?
Yes, the rest of the myopia can be corrected, but it is preferable to wait for 2 to 3 months after the first procedure to ensure that the eyesight is stable and the patient is undergoing a complementary operation to repair myopia after the first operation.
